The celebrations of the “Camisola Poveira” day, taking place on December 8 in the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, will feature the participation of Portuguese designer Susana Bettencourt in the Masterclass “Handicraft as a key piece of innovation, fashion and design”. The initiative will take place at 11 am in Centro Póvoa Empresas, fulfilling the need to, increasingly, combine innovation with tradition.
The action aims to attract and retain young artists, designers and creators who want to keep this craft tradition alive, respecting the traditional way of making, but giving it a more personal and innovative stamp, and may have direct application to the sector of micro-businesses linked to crafts.
It was thinking about a more innovative future that the Certification of the Poveira Sweater now provides two new types of labels – one of the Traditional Model (thick wool, white base and red and black embroidery) and another of the Innovation Model (which opens the way for more creative pieces and a reinvention of the art, without distorting the historical rules of making the Poveira Sweater).
The Masterclass, with the participation of Susana Bettencourt, is open to all interested parties, and is organized by the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim with the support of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), as an opportunity to open horizons for those who want to expand the know-how of this piece to other paths.
