Portugal Fashion joined Marques’Almeida and supported the duo in making the presentation film of the AW22 collection. This special project, within a logic that breaks with the traditional paradigm of fashion weeks, also intends to be a way to communicate Portugal, with its enormous Atlantic Coast, as well as to make known a very unique lifestyle and local communities that, today, preserve ancestral knowledge.
It was in Viana do Castelo that the duo, formed by Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, recorded the presentation film for their Autumn-Winter 2022 collection. Piscina das marés, in Praia do Norte, was the place chosen “to transport the audience to the dramatic landscape and raw beauty of the Portuguese coast”.
The AW22 pre-collection video, launched yesterday, July 21, at 6:30pm, has an eclectic and rebellious sensibility. It continues Marques’Almeida’s commitment to increasingly improve its manufacturing and sourcing techniques to reduce the impact on the environment and takes the brand on a learning journey about sustainability.
Themes include a color palette ranging from black, purple, bubblegum pink and flashes of citrus fruits. Psychedelic patchwork and tie dye pop pieces, with the iconic frayed jeans, add effortless disobedience. White net dresses and harmonious English embroidery contrast with the blue ocean.
“Our shows are always a celebration. Our community comes together to be seen and to support each other. This season is particularly special because we welcome, to our M’AKERS family, five artisans and artists who created some of the pieces in the show. Along with models and staff, we all gather in this natural setting to share an experience, make real connections, feel happy, and celebrate the work we create together. If the purpose of M’A is nothing more than that, we are genuinely happy,” explains the duo.
Always keeping its global community at the forefront, the Marques’Almeida duo follows its own schedule, always with its consumer in mind.
The collection incorporates pieces from the M’AKERS project – sculptural research pieces, exclusively developed by Portuguese artists and craftsmen – with the aim of empowering local communities and preserving ancestral knowledge. Patchwork is key, and fish scales and limpets are used as embroidered beauty objects in garments.
The five new M’AKERS:
Aldevina Serpa – Patchwork Specialist (Azores);
Sofia Afonso – Fish scale + handmade lapa (Trás-os-Montes);
“Sol e Brumas” by Sónia Bárbara – Expert in circular patchwork techniques (Mozambique);
Fátima Ferreira – Textile artisan (Póvoa de Varzim).
