Portugal Fashion is back on the itinerary across borders for international fashion weeks in the spring-summer season. The first stop is in Paris with the duo Ernest W. Baker, in the official schedule of the French Men’s Fashion Week. It is on Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. (Portuguese time) that the Spring-Summer 2023 collection will be presented, in digital format. The Fashion Film will be livestreamed by Paris Fashion Week (parisfashionweek.fhcm.paris).

Before the official launch, a professional showroom dedicated to buyers and press will be held from June 22 to 25 at 19 Rue Béranger 75003 Paris. This way, the Ernest W. Baker presentation at PFW will be a hybrid, with a video presented on the Fashion Week digital platform on June 25 and a physical presentation between 11:30am and 2pm at the same address as the showroom.

In times of pandemic and successive crises, the work in fashion is questioned. From here comes the designers’ reflection to create a collection that refers to the spring of 2020, as “something familiar and comfortable, the feeling of innocence, of naivety – an impression of shelter”. The brand’s codes – the American influence, the play of proportions, a slightly feminine approach to menswear, tailoring with a sense of irony, craftsmanship – are reviewed here through the lens of childhood. Authenticity is the strapline of the piece of fashion history they write, and everyone is a part of it: “young, old, male, female, what does it matter?”

Esnest W. Baker’s Fashion Film is an invitation into their world. Shot with Ukrainian director and photographer Vladimir Kaminetsky, it captures how each step forward in the brand gives meaning to this perspective. “At the end of the day, we’re just making fashion: it should be nice, refreshing and fun. Something to be worn. Something to be shared,” say the designers.

Reid Baker was born in Detroit and raised in rural Park City, Utah, while Inês Amorim was born and raised in Viana do Castelo. Founded in 2017 by the designers, the brand is inspired by Reid’s grandfather, Ernest W. Baker, one of Detroit’s first advertisers. With a sense of nostalgia, the intention is to reinterpret classic clothes that look like they were taken from Ernest’s closet. After releasing only their second collection, the designers’ brand has been nominated for the LVMH award 2018 edition and has outlets such as 10 Corso Como, Antonioli, Galeries Lafayette, SSENSE and United Arrows.
