JAK and HUARTE have created a special Limited Edition comprising 18 pairs of unique JAK shoes that were worn at the presentation of HUARTE’s FW23 collection during the March 2023 edition of Portugal Fashion.
Under the creative direction of Isabel Henriques da Silva (Creative Director of JAK) and Victor Huarte (Creative Director of HUARTE), the shoes were given a new lease of life by replacing the soles and customizing them with the iconic colors of HUARTE’s FW23 collection. In addition, each pair comes with a serial number and a unique gift accessory: a tote bag handmade by Victor Huarte from leftover fabrics.
In an age when environmental awareness is at the forefront, the concept of upcycling takes on a whole new meaning. Reusing a pair of shoes goes beyond simple reconditioning, as it incorporates a commitment to sustainability, conserving resources and reducing the ecological footprint.
“The idea was to reuse these sneakers to give them a new purpose. We took advantage of the necessary transformations to reinterpret this mini capsule, trying to bring it closer to my FW23 collection, always with the aim of conveying the sustainability policy that is transversal to HUARTE and JAK.” Victor Huarte comments.
“Reusing a pair of shoes doesn’t just mean giving them a second chance, it’s a powerful statement about our commitment to sustainability. We know that upcycling is the present and the future, it allows us to minimize waste and make a positive impact on the environment. In the case of this partnership, we changed the soles and replaced the worn parts, taking advantage of the base that was already produced, optimizing resources and raw materials.” Isabel Henriques da Silva adds.
This Limited Edition has just been launched and is available in the JAK and HUARTE online store. All profits from the collection go to the PAIS21 Association, an association of people with trisomy 21, families and civil society which, since 2008, has been promoting information and sharing news about trisomy 21 and fighting for the individuality and decision-making power of each of these people.
