After the cycle dedicated to menswear, the platform returned to the womenswear circuit with presentations at London and Milan Fashion Weeks.
After the international menswear fashion weeks, Portugal Fashion returns in February to the womenswear circuit with a new moment in its international calendar, which includes presentations in London and Milan. The first stage took place on February 23, with the presentation of the new Marques’Almeida collection, integrated into the official womenswear calendar of London Fashion Week. The event took place between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM, at 347 Old Street.
Recognised as one of the Portuguese brands with the greatest international projection, Marques’Almeida presented a collection that revisits the central codes of its language, built on the tension between opposites: utilitarian and ornamental, rigour and fluidity, attitude and romanticism.
Military and functional references introduced structure and precision, anchoring the silhouettes in a dimension of use and reality. In contrast, fluid fabrics, worked surfaces, embroidery, and crystal applications added movement, density, and visual intensity, creating a balance between restraint and expression.
The dialogue between historical references and urban culture ran throughout the collection. Baroque-inspired elements appeared over the clarity of office shirts, while grunge-spirited checks and floral motifs, recurring in the brand’s universe, were reinterpreted in heavy satins and bias cuts, shifting subcultural codes into a more sophisticated territory.
Materiality took on a central role. Lurex brocades, dense crystal embroidery, and structured mikado with volumes and ruffles introduced scale and presence, while bias cuts created fluidity and asymmetry, reinforcing the balance between control and freedom that characterises the brand’s language.
“The international affirmation of Marques’Almeida demonstrates that Portuguese fashion today has brands with the capacity to scale, consolidate markets, and operate competitively in the global context. It is this evolution of the sector that Portugal Fashion seeks to support and make visible,” stated Mónica Neto, Director of Portugal Fashion.
Marques’Almeida was founded in London by Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida after completing their Master’s degree at Central Saint Martins. They began presenting their collections at London Fashion Week in 2010, quickly establishing a strong and distinctive identity. In 2015, the brand won the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, consolidating its international recognition. Today, it is present in several markets and leading retail points such as Browns Fashion, Ounass, and Shopbop. Among the personalities who have worn the brand in recent times are Beyoncé, Hilary Duff, Sofía Vergara, and Dua Lipa, further reinforcing its global projection.
After London, Portugal Fashion’s international calendar continued in Milan.
